Book Character Parade Oct. 28

DLE’s annual Book Character Parade will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28.

Parents are welcome to attend in person or via TEAMS. Students will parade through the back driveway. Guests attending in person may sit to the left and right of the back driveway on the grass. Please bring your lawn chairs or blanket. Parents attending virtually will use the following link to join in. Click here to join the meeting.

If it rains on October 28, the parade will move indoors and all guests will attend via TEAMS.

Remember all costumes should be based on a book character. Follow this link for recommendations from our librarian Ms. Perez.

DLE Family Movie Night

We appreciate all of our DLE families who came out to our second-annual Family Movie Night Oct. 21.

Lots of Lions were running around having a great time! The PTO is proud to provide this free event to wrap up our Palooza fall fundraiser. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped put together this event.

Wow, Lions! You All Rocked Socktober!

Thanks to our Lion community’s generosity, we donated 3,982 pairs of socks to Shared Dreams! That’s a new record!

We more than doubled our donation numbers from our best year (2019 - 1,846 pairs of socks). Fourth grade deserves special recognition for bringing in more than 2,100 pairs through their grade-level contest. Their competition, organized by our awesome 4th grade teachers, helped drive a record number of socks in! And special thanks to our NEHS members for their assistance with the drive.

Every donation given made a huge impact on Shared Dreams and they are grateful for our generous Lion Hearts. Crazy Sock Day was the perfect ending to a successful drive!

DLE Family Movie Night, Oct. 21

Join us for our second annual Family Movie Night at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the DLE playground, featuring “The Addams Family 2.” The Concession Stand and games open at 6 p.m.; the movie begins at sunset.

This is NOT a drop-off event. Parents must stay with their children.

Volunteers are needed to help run this amazing event for our DLE Lion families. Follow this link if you are interested in volunteering.

October 21 is the final day to donate during PALOOZA 2022. The winners of our first-ever Online Auction will be announced during DLE Family Movie Night.

Donations Needed for DLE Clinic

Whether due to accidents or spills, often times students need a new set of clothing during the school day. Luckily, our nurses come to the rescue!

Currently, the clinic is in need of a few items to help restock the spare clothing stash.

Please note that these are the only items currently requested at this time:

  • Boys Underwear: Size 4-6 and 7-8

  • Boys and Girls Elastic Waistband Shorts/Pants: Size 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 10-12

While we appreciate willingness to give more, we do not have the capacity to house any additional donations.

Socktober is Here!

Socktober is a Deeds for Donald initiative where we collect NEW pairs of socks, in all sizes, for Shared Dreams.

What is Shared Dreams?

Shared Dreams is a FBISD program that provides short term assistance to registered FBISD students whose needs have been determined by their campus nurse and staff. It provides clothing, shoes, toiletries, school supplies, and food throughout the year.

A few facts:

  • Last year Shared Dreams helped 15,000 kids in Fort Bend County. Pretty awesome, right!?

  • FBISD has roughly 77,000 students and 50 percent are considered economically disadvantaged - 65 percent of those that utilize Shared Dreams are elementary aged.

  • They welcome any and all ADULT volunteers at the center! You might sort clothing or shoe bins, put together an interview outfit for a high schooler, or organize shelving. One thing is promised, you won’t be bored and you’ll walk away knowing you made a difference! Click here to sign up. A FBISD Background Check must be completed before volunteering.

We Are Known for Rocking the Sock Drop! Here is a look at the total pairs of socks donated throughout the years:

  • 2019 – 1,846 pairs

  • 2020 – 898 pairs

  • 2021 – 1,592 pairs

How to Sponsor the PTO

Help Start a Yoga Club at DLE

Ms. Vaughn and Ms. Shakib are hoping to start a yoga club for our students at Leonetti! But in order to do so, a 200-hour training session called Breathe for Change is required. Breathe for Change is an amazing program that combines not only yoga, but also Social Emotional Learning, and the hope is to bring these strategies back to our campus to share with staff and students.

Ms. Vaughn is currently raising funds to attend the training which costs around $2,000. Should you feel inclined to contribute, please learn more at the link below. Contributions accepted until September 7. Note: This is not required by DLE to run a club. These teachers are doing it solely as a personal growth opportunity.

Hearts of Gold

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. DLE encourages students to show their support by wearing gold or yellow every Wednesday in September.

This year, students will be participating in a Gold Stroll walk at the beginning of their PE outclass time to honor those students who have fought or continue to fight pediatric cancer.

On September 16, all students and staff can dress up as their favorite superhero to honor those students who continue their fight or have fought pediatric cancer. They are true heroes!

There is also a community event being planned, click here for more information.
