What is Shared Dreams?

Shared Dreams is a FBISD program that provides short term assistance to registered FBISD students whose needs have been determined by their campus nurse and staff. It provides clothing, shoes, toiletries, school supplies, and food throughout the year.

A few facts:

  • Last year Shared Dreams helped 15,000 kids in Fort Bend County. Pretty awesome, right!?

  • FBISD has roughly 77,000 students and 50 percent are considered economically disadvantaged - 65 percent of those that utilize Shared Dreams are elementary aged.

  • They welcome any and all ADULT volunteers at the center! You might sort clothing or shoe bins, put together an interview outfit for a high schooler, or organize shelving. One thing is promised, you won’t be bored and you’ll walk away knowing you made a difference! Click here to sign up. A FBISD Background Check must be completed before volunteering.

We Are Known for Rocking the Sock Drop! Here is a look at the total pairs of socks donated throughout the years:

  • 2019 – 1,846 pairs

  • 2020 – 898 pairs

  • 2021 – 1,592 pairs

How to Sponsor the PTO

Help Start a Yoga Club at DLE

Ms. Vaughn and Ms. Shakib are hoping to start a yoga club for our students at Leonetti! But in order to do so, a 200-hour training session called Breathe for Change is required. Breathe for Change is an amazing program that combines not only yoga, but also Social Emotional Learning, and the hope is to bring these strategies back to our campus to share with staff and students.

Ms. Vaughn is currently raising funds to attend the training which costs around $2,000. Should you feel inclined to contribute, please learn more at the link below. Contributions accepted until September 7. Note: This is not required by DLE to run a club. These teachers are doing it solely as a personal growth opportunity.

Hearts of Gold

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. DLE encourages students to show their support by wearing gold or yellow every Wednesday in September.

This year, students will be participating in a Gold Stroll walk at the beginning of their PE outclass time to honor those students who have fought or continue to fight pediatric cancer.

On September 16, all students and staff can dress up as their favorite superhero to honor those students who continue their fight or have fought pediatric cancer. They are true heroes!

There is also a community event being planned, click here for more information.

September Staff Appreciation

The PTO sponsors monthly Staff Appreciation events for our amazing DLE teachers and staff. For the September Staff Appreciation event, we are gifting each of our teachers with a fun autumn-scented hand soap to ward off those Beginning-of-the-School-Year germs!

Please take a look at how you can help.  Items are being collected in the VIPS Room, and are due to DLE by Friday, Sept. 23.

Important Update for Morning Arrivals

To expedite arrival and ensure student safety, DLE’s morning arrival traffic pattern will be the same as at dismissal.

At 7:30 a.m., the first left turn entrance to DLE will be closed. All cars will need to proceed down Waters Lake Boulevard, past Thornton Middle School, and make a U-turn. Cars will make the U-turn in front of the last entrance to Thornton and proceed back to the SLE car rider driveway entrance. Cars will make two lanes as soon as they enter the car rider driveway.

Only FBISD Employees, FBISD busses, daycare vans and cars with green front office tags will be allowed to turn into the parking lot between Leonetti and Thornton.

If you would like to park and walk your child, please stay in the car rider line, enter the first entrance to DLE and park in the front parking lot. Parents must walk their students across the crosswalk in front of the school doors. Parents will not be allowed to park in the parking lot between Thornton and Leonetti.

Some reminders for morning arrival:

  • Form two lines in the car rider driveway.

  • Do not exit your vehicle. This will stall the line for everyone.

  • Your child needs to be ready to exit the vehicle once you arrive in the Drop Off/Pick Up Zone. That means backpack, lunch, water bottle in hand. Shoes on, hair already combed. Goodbyes said and hugs given.

  • For their safety, please have your child exit the vehicle from the passenger side (nearest the sidewalk).

Assistant Principals Christina Simpson and Megan Boler are out at morning arrival assessing the procedure and getting feedback from assisting paraprofessionals. They are making adjustments as needed.

Wondering how you can help? Sign up to be a Morning Car Door Helper. No experience is necessary, just bring a smile and a welcoming attitude, and open car doors for our students as they safely exit their vehicles during morning drop off.
